Why buy vintage glass by Helena Tynell?
Helena Tynell was a renowned designer and glass sculptor who worked with glass, especially during her long collaboration with the Riihimäki Glassworks. Active mainly in the mid-20th century, she created a range of iconic vases and lighting designs that blended organic forms with a modern aesthetic. Tynell was one of the first female designers in Finnish glass design of that era.
She worked over 40 years at the Riihimäki glassworks. She became one of the first Finnish designers to receive international recognition. In 1954, Tynell's works were exhibited at the first Suomi Design Exhibition in New York.
Her glass decorations and sculptures are exhibited at the Finnish Glass Museum, as well as museums in Germany and Belgium, where she also worked. Tynell's works are part of the collections of Finnish and Austrian presidential families, the Finnish Parliament, and Turku Castle
