Why buy vintage glass by Finnish designer Oiva Toikka?

Oiva Toikka is a legend of Scandinavian design. For many years, he worked for the Nuutajärvi glassworks. Toikka became famous for his series of art glass depicting the flora and fauna of Finland, particularly colorful bird figurines.

He was equally successful with both minimalist forms and decorative styles. His pieces are often unusual and impulsive.

Oiva Toikka worked as a designer for over 50 years. During this time, he received international recognition and Finland's highest cultural award, the Pro Finlandia, equivalent to Sweden's Prince Eugen Medal. He also became a professor of arts in both Finland and Sweden.
