Overview
Vintage Finnish hand-woven raanu wall textile in natural wool, circa 1960s to 1970s.
The colour composition is the main beauty of this piece. Deep forest green at the top slowly moves through moss, olive, ochre, straw yellow, coral, orange, red and dark wine tones near the lower edge. The effect is almost like a northern landscape changing from forest to firelight.
Design and Colour
This raanu has a clean vertical form and a rich horizontal rhythm. Thin woven lines in cream, yellow, black and darker green give depth to the broad colour fields. The lower red fringe adds a strong finishing accent.
The palette feels very Finnish: nature based, warm, slightly dramatic, but still balanced. It can bring colour to a white wall, soften a modern room, or sit naturally with wood, ceramics and vintage Scandinavian furniture.
Material and Craft
Made by hand from natural wool. Small variations in the weave are part of the handmade character and give the textile its living surface.
Raanu textiles were widely used in Finnish homes as wall hangings, decorative textiles and warm interior elements. This example has the clear colour confidence of the 1960s and 1970s.
