Fortuna vase designed by Björn Weckström and made by Nuutajärvi glassworks in Finland in the 1980s. The compact opal glass body has a softly rounded, slightly asymmetric form, with an abstract metallic composition spreading across the white surface.
The decoration was created using a Murano glassmaking technique involving metal within the glass. Smoky grey and reflective metallic areas form irregular shapes, small rings and scattered droplets, giving the vase a distinctly graphic character.
Björn Weckström is known as a jeweler, sculptor and designer. His sculptural jewelry for Lapponia brought him international recognition, including pieces worn by Princess Leia in Star Wars. He received the Pro Finlandia medal, and his work is represented in museum collections internationally.
