Pair of Niva glasses designed by Tapio Wirkkala for Iittala, one of the most distinctive Finnish glass designs of the 1970s.
The clear glass has a strong vertical structure interrupted by a rough, irregular band around the centre. The surface recalls moving water, melting ice and the eroded textures of northern landscapes, themes closely associated with Wirkkala’s work in glass.
One glass retains its original Iittala Made in Finland sticker.
Niva Series
Tapio Wirkkala designed the Niva series for Iittala, with production running from 1972 to 1992. The series combines practical drinking glass forms with heavily textured surfaces inspired by natural structures.
These small glasses work particularly well for schnapps, liqueur or spirits and also make an appealing addition to a collection of Finnish modernist glass.
