Pair of clear Finnish glass goblets made by Karhula-Iittala glassworks. Their compact proportions, rounded bowl and solid stem give them the straightforward elegance typical of Finnish table glass from the late 1930s onward.
The form was produced from 1938 to 1962. According to the Karhula glass collection of the Kymenlaakso Museum, the model was created specifically for restaurant use and appeared in Karhula-Iittala catalogue in 1939.
Design History
The history of the model goes back to 1934, when moulds for this type of glass arrived in Finland from the Swedish Eda glassworks. Around 1938, Finnish designer Erkki Vesanto refined the form, adjusting the stem and the transition into the bowl to give the glass a smoother profile.
In Iittala catalogues the series also appears under the internal model number 2005.
