Tulipa glass plate, model 79201, designed by Ulrica Hydman Vallien for Kosta Boda, Sweden, in 1992. The large blue tulip, broad green leaves and rhythmic border of blue dots give the piece the direct, expressive character associated with Hydman Vallien's work.
The plate is made from clear textured glass and individually painted by hand.
Ulrica Hydman Vallien for Kosta Boda
Ulrica Hydman Vallien was one of the most recognizable Swedish glass artists of the late 20th century. Her work for Kosta Boda often brought freely drawn flowers, animals and human figures directly onto glass, with much of the visual character coming from the hand-painted surface.
This Tulipa plate dates from 1991 and belongs to this distinctive period of her work for Kosta Boda.
Signature and Original Label
The plate carries the artist's characteristic UHV signature within the painted composition.
The original factory care label is also still present and reads “Hand painted, do not machine wash”, confirming the individually painted decoration and the recommended method of care.
