Striking vintage glass decanter with hand-painted enamel decoration and a matching shot glass. The front of the decanter shows a mounted cavalryman riding directly toward the viewer, which gives the piece an unusually dynamic character. The rider resembles Finland’s Marshal C. G. E. Mannerheim (1867-1951).
The glass has a light aqua tint and is decorated with folk style floral and heart motifs in red, green and soft pastel tones. The decanter has a fitted ground stopper.
Similar enamel painted decanters were made at the Kumela glassworks in Riihimäki. This set is likely Finnish and probably dates to the first half of the 20th century.
