Silver pendant designed by Elis Kauppi for Kupittaan Kulta, one of the best known Finnish jewellery workshops of the 20th century. The pendant centres on a round piece of Ylämaa spectrolite, its deep blue and green flashes framed by a slender open silver form.
The small geometric motif across the stone introduces a warm metallic contrast to the cool silver and dark spectrolite.
Spectrolite
Spectrolite is a rare high quality variety of labradorite associated particularly with Finland. Its defining feature is the intense iridescence that appears as the stone moves in the light. This example shows deep blue, turquoise and green tones, with the colour shifting depending on the angle, resembling a northern lights.
