Sirkku Kumela-Lehtonen | Grape large punch bowl & 7 glasses

Rare vintage Kumela glass set from the Rypäle (Finnish for Grape) series, designed by Sirkku Kumela-Lehtonen in Finland in the 1970s. The set includes a large footed bowl and 7 matching small glasses, all made in a warm amber tone with raised grape and vine decoration.

The colour is one of the strongest features of the set, that gives the bowl and glasses a rich golden look. The raised grape pattern adds texture and makes the surface lively without making the form heavy.

Sirkku Kumela Lehtonen was an important figure in Finnish glass design and one of the early women designers to hold a leading role at a glass producing in Nordics. She worked for Kumela glassworks in Riihimäki, Finland.

The Bowl

The large footed bowl has a rounded body, clear foot and a wide opening. Despite its size, the shape remains elegant, with the stem lifting the bowl visually from the table. The embossed grape design runs around the body and catches the light through the amber glass.

The Glasses

The 7 matching glasses repeat the same grape motif in a smaller, rounded form. They are suitable for punch, dessert wine, liqueur, berry drinks or summer table serving. Together with the large bowl, they make a complete and visually strong vintage serving set.
