Collection: Designer: Åsa Jungnelius
Åsa Jungnelius (b. 1975, Stockholm) began her creative journey apprenticing in glassblowing as a teenager at Kosta Boda. She later earned her MFA in ceramics and glass from Konstfack in Stockholm, finishing in 2004. Since 2007, she’s held a design position at Kosta Boda and also lectures at Konstfack, mentoring new generations of makers.
Artistic Approach & Themes
Jungnelius merges sculpture and practical objects, using glass to explore identity, social norms, and everyday culture. In her words, it’s about revealing societal myths through familiar forms, turning a drinking glass into a silent statement on connection and self.
Signature Collections
Among her best-known series is Make‑Up (2008), a set of stylized glass items: lipstick, nail polish - takeaways from a gallery installation, now playful everyday pieces. In 2020, she followed with Crackle, a line of mouth-blown vases and bowls featuring ice-like fractured surfaces, each one unique in texture.
Exhibitions & Public Works
Jungnelius has exhibited widely across Sweden and Europe since the early 2000s, with solo shows in Stockholm and Munich. She is also active in public art, most notably her “Snäckan” (Seashell) piece, commissioned for the new Stockholm metro station at Hagastaden and due in 2027.
Recognition & Legacy
Her work features in major collections: Moderna Museet, Nationalmuseum, European Parliament, and others. Honored as Designer of the Year by Swedish Form and receiving EDIDA and Form Awards, Jungnelius stands among Scandinavia’s most inventive contemporary glass artists.
