Abou the piece
Rare vintage wooden box by Aarikka, made in Finland during the 1970s.

The piece has the form of a small wooden barrel with a removable lid. It is made from carefully fitted pieces of pine, each with its own grain direction, colour tone and natural pattern. This construction gives the surface a quiet rhythm: vertical and horizontal grain lines meet around the body, while the lid shows warmer flowing wood patterns.

The colour is especially appealing. The pine has aged into a warm honey tone, with deeper amber areas, natural resin marks and darker traces in the grain. It still carries a faint scent of pine forest, connected with small resin traces in the wood.

Form and Material
The box is compact, solid and tactile. The rounded cylinder shape feels simple at first glance, but the construction is more detailed when seen close up. The body is built from individually fitted wooden sections, so the grain changes from piece to piece instead of running as one uniform surface.

This is very characteristic of Aarikka’s wooden design: natural material, clear shape, visible handwork and a warm Finnish modernist feeling.

Surface and Patina
The surface has a natural vintage patina. There is gentle darkening of the wood, resin traces and small colour variations that belong to the material rather than looking like damage.

On the top of the lid there is age related surface wear, visible as soft rubbing and small marks. On the upper rim of the box there are very small surface gaps between some fitted wood sections, consistent with age, use and the natural movement of wood over time. These details add to the character of the object and underline its handmade wooden construction.

Condition
Very good vintage condition. Normal signs of age and previous use are present, including surface wear on the lid, natural darkening of the pine, resin marks and minor age related gaps along the fitted wooden sections. The box remains solid, attractive and fully decorative.
