Aino Aalto Bölgeblick Amber Glass Bowl | Karhula
Aino Aalto Bölgeblick Amber Glass Bowl | Karhula
Overview
Rare amber glass bowl from the Bölgeblick series designed by Aino Aalto. Produced in Finland in the 1930s, this piece reflects the origins of modern Nordic glass design and early minimalist tableware.
The stepped, concentric form is characteristic of the series, combining visual rhythm with functional clarity. The amber tone is uncommon within the Bölgeblick range and adds depth and warmth to the geometry.
This bowl functions both as a utilitarian object and as an autonomous glass art object.
Design & Historical Context
The Bölgeblick series was designed in the early 1930s for Karhula glassworks and marked a shift toward contemporary, reproducible tableware with refined proportions.
The name Bölgeblick comes from Swedish and translates as “wave glance,” a reference to the circular, wave like structure. The designer’s surname, Aalto, means “wave” in Finnish, reinforcing the conceptual coherence of the design.
In 1936, the Bölgeblick series received a Gold Medal at the Milan Triennial, one of the most significant design awards of the period.
