Overview
Vintage set of three dessert plates from the Bölgeblick series, designed by Aino Aalto for Karhula glassworks. Clear glass with a soft azure blue tone and concentric relief pattern. Produced in Finland in the 1930s–1940s.
Design and Series
The Bölgeblick series (Swedish for “Wave Glance”) was introduced in 1932 and became a foundational example of modern tableware design.
Its defining feature is a system of concentric rings formed directly in the glass, creating a rhythmic surface that interacts with light and depth.
The name Aalto means “wave” in Finnish, directly reflecting the visual language of the series.
In 1936, Bölgeblick received the Gold Medal at the Milan Triennial, one of the most significant design awards of the period.
