About the Set

Vintage Finnish ceramic trio set from the beloved Pirtti series designed by Raija Uosikkinen for Arabia Finland. The set includes a cup, saucer and cake plate decorated with soft earthy brown bands against a warm off white glaze.

Pirtti belongs to a generation of Nordic tableware where everyday objects were designed with unusual care for proportion, rhythm and atmosphere. The striped composition feels calm and architectural at the same time. Brown rings wrap around the forms almost like layers in natural stone or wood grain.

The glossy glaze reflects light beautifully and gives depth to the muted cream and deep cocoa brown tones. Even a simple coffee moment looks more considered with pieces like these.

Design

Raija Uosikkinen created some of the most recognizable surface decorations in Finnish ceramic history. In Pirtti, she moved toward restraint and balance, allowing the relationship between form and color to carry the character of the series.

The heavy brown band near the base grounds the composition visually, while the thinner soft gray brown lines lighten it and create rhythm. Together they produce a distinctly Nordic mood associated with Finnish interiors of the 1970s and early 1980s.

Pirtti remains especially attractive today because the palette works naturally in contemporary interiors alongside wood, linen, stone and minimalist table settings.
