Bertel Gardberg was one of the creators of a new modernist style cutlery in Europe. He received both the Lunning Prize and the Pro Finlandia medal in 1961. He was awarded gold medals at the Milan Triennale in 1954 and 1957 - most prestigious design award that time, and was later named an academician of art in 1982. In 1991 he was honored with the Nordic Prince Eugen Medal.
