In the early 1970s, Scandinavian jewelry design saw the emergence of its own Organic style. Jewelers began using images inspired by the northern elements and nature.
One of the most memorable piece was Cladonia, modeled after one type of reindeer lichen, an essential part of the Lapland landscape for centuries. Lapland, an endless expanse in the north of the Scandinavian Peninsula, provided the perfect inspiration.
Hannu Ikonen was a renowned jeweler and designer of textiles and clothing. He had an excellent understanding of how jewelry should look on a person, creating pieces that were not only abstractly beautiful but also practical.
