Brutalist Glass Vase Kallio by Kaj Blomqvist, Kumela
Vintage brutalist Finnish art glass vase designed by Kaj Blomqvist for Kumela glassworks, Finland. Model Kallio (Finnish for Rock), created with a textured surface reminiscent of natural stone and rock formations. Each side of the vase presents a unique relief, inspired by the organic elements of Nordic nature: ice, stone, water and plant life.
– Hand-blown amber honey-colored glass
– Sculptural asymmetrical form, strong vertical presence
– Signed: Kaj Blomqvist Kumela Oy Finland
– Height: 20.5 cm
– Weight: approx. 1.5 kg
– Produced: 1970s
A collectible piece of Finnish modernist design from the golden era of Scandinavian glass.
Excellent vintage condition. On the inner rim of the vase, there is a small smooth indentation, likely the result of a forming air bubble during production. This is not a chip - the edges are smooth, and the surface is uniform. The vase is signed, indicating that this feature was accepted as part of the production process and is not considered a flaw.
