Large wooden Kurki crane designed by Kaija Aarikka for Aarikka, Finland, during the 1980s. Made from natural pine, the bird stands 22.5 cm high and extends 24 cm from the rounded tail to the tip of its beak.
The sweeping curved neck gives the crane an animated, almost inquisitive posture. Its substantial oval body is balanced by a cluster of turned wooden spheres forming the tail, while the visible pine grain becomes part of the design across every element. The generous scale and unusual construction give this Aarikka bird the presence of a small wooden sculpture.
