Vintage birch serving plate by Tailio, made in Finland in the 1970s. The plate has a strong round form with a raised centre and a wide flat rim, giving it a clear graphic presence on the table. The form for that series was originally made by famous Finnish designer and architect Eero Saarinen.
The birch grain remain visible, so the surface keeps its natural wooden character.

Tailio pieces often have a simple, practical shape, but this plate has more visual weight than an ordinary serving dish. It can be used for serving fruit, bread, dry snacks or pastries, and also works well as a decorative tray on a table, shelf or sideboard.
