Elve Tauts “Alla” Art Glass Vase, Estonia 1980s
Elve Tauts “Alla” Art Glass Vase, Estonia 1980s
Heavy art glass vase “Alla”, designed by Elve Tauts for Tarbeklaas Glass Factory, Estonia, 1987.
The vase demonstrates a complex multilayer glassmaking technique:
a translucent clear outer layer, a white opaline inner layer, and between them a delicate field of tiny air bubbles suspended in the glass, giving the surface a soft, textured appearance. Each vase is hand-formed, so the pattern of bubbles varies slightly, making every piece unique.
This model belongs to the late period of Estonian (Soviet) modernist glass design. The shape is solid and rounded, with a wide, slightly flared rim and a tactile smoothness that emphasizes the weight and clarity of the glass.
