Handmade Finnish wooden wall decoration from the 1960s or 1970s, signed J. Salminen. The composition shows two highly stylized birds arranged vertically, with long curved necks, open forms and broad carved wings. The simplified shapes and strong silhouette give the piece a distinctly modernist character.
The birds are carved from light coloured wood, likely beech, and mounted on a veneered wooden backing with a warm red brown finish. The contrast between the pale carving and darker background emphasizes the sculptural relief and the flowing lines of the composition.
A characteristic piece of Finnish mid century decorative woodwork, suitable as a small wall sculpture or part of a Scandinavian vintage interior.
