Nuutajarvi Rare Art Glass Basket, 1970s
Nuutajarvi Rare Art Glass Basket, 1970s
Vintage rare hand-blown art glass basket from Nuutajärvi, Finland’s oldest glassworks, dating to the 1970s–1980s.
This sculptural piece stands approximately 20 cm tall and measures 16 cm at its widest point. It is made from thick, vibrant cobalt blue glass with a clear solid glass handle, seamlessly fused to the body in a fluid gesture of form and function.
The playful, rounded silhouette and bold monochrome coloring are closely aligned with the design language of Oiva Toikka or Kaj Franck, both of whom were active at Nuutajärvi during this era and known for bridging the gap between utility and expressive form. While unmarked by a specific designer, the piece reflects the same studio glass spirit and exploration of material that defined the Boutique line and other limited artistic productions at the glassworks.
Still retains its original Nuutajärvi foil label: Nuutajärvi 1793 Wärtsilä Finland. In excellent vintage condition with no chips or cracks, displays beautifully.
A rare and charismatic example of Finnish modern glass, equally suited for collectors or as a standalone design object in a contemporary interior.
