About the Piece
Vintage Fuuga glass vase designed by Heikki Orvola for Nuutajärvi, made in Finland between 1983 and 1987.

This is the lower, wider and more substantial form from the Fuuga series. The vase has a broad cylindrical body, a softly flared rim and a thick clear glass base that gives the piece visual weight. Its proportions are calm and architectural, with a strong horizontal presence.

The white glass has a soft opaline quality. It is not a flat white surface: the material changes with light, becoming slightly translucent near the rim and edges. In bright light, the upper edge shows a delicate opalescent glow, with pale blue and grey undertones visible through the glass.

Glass and Technique
The vase combines opaque white opaline glass with clear glass. The lower part shows how the white glass meets and enters the transparent base, creating visible depth inside the material.

The contrast is subtle but technically important: milky white glass above, clear heavy glass below, and a soft internal transition between them. This gives the vase its quiet visual tension. The form is simple, but the glass makes it change depending on light and background.

Form and Colour
The shape is wide, low and solid, with a gently opened rim. It works well as a small vase, a sculptural glass object or a calm centrepiece.

The colour is mainly soft white, with translucent opaline edges and a clear grey toned base. Against dark surfaces, the white body becomes more luminous. Against a light background, the clear base and rim details become more visible.
