About the Set

Vintage Finnish drinking and punch glasses from the Talonpoika series designed by Pertti Santalahti for Humppila during the 1970s. Handmade in rich amber glass with softly rounded walls and a darker base that gives the color additional depth in changing light.

The name Talonpoika translates from Finnish as “Farmer,” and the series carries something of that atmosphere: simple forms, warmth, practicality and closeness to natural materials.

Amber glass became one of the defining colors of Scandinavian interiors during the 1970s. In these pieces the tone shifts between honey, burnt orange and deep brown depending on surrounding light and the amount poured into the glass.

Design

Pertti Santalahti created Talonpoika with an unusually tactile form. The glasses sit comfortably in the hand because of their rounded shape and balanced weight.

Since the glasses were handmade, each piece carries small differences in thickness, proportions and movement within the glass. Together they form a matching set while still retaining the individuality of studio made production.

The smooth rounded silhouette also creates beautiful reflections on tables and shelves, especially near windows or candlelight.

Collector Notes

Humppila glass from the 1970s has become increasingly appreciated among collectors of Nordic design for its organic forms and warm color palette. Talonpoika belongs to the period when Scandinavian glass moved away from strict geometric modernism toward softer and more tactile shapes.

These glasses work beautifully for punch, wine, desserts or simply as small sculptural objects in an interior.

Price is for the complete set of 3 pieces.
