Overview
Modernist metal pendant necklace by Finnish designer Juhani Vuorisalmi, dating from the 1970s.
The pendant has a strong sculptural look: open circular cutouts, textured metal, rounded bead details and four small moving drops below.
Design
The design feels architectural and ornamental at the same time. The main pendant is shaped like a rounded shield or stylised fan, pierced with circles of different sizes. The cutouts make the piece lighter visually, while the textured surface gives it depth and a handmade character.
Along the upper edge there is a row of raised metal beads. Below, five articulated drops hang freely and add gentle movement when worn. The contrast between the rough patterned surface and smooth rounded details is especially effective.
Designer
Juhani Vuorisalmi is known for Finnish modernist jewellery of the 1970s, often using bold forms, textured metal and sculptural construction. This pendant fits that period well, with its strong graphic shape and handmade finish.
