Kaj Franck Iittala, Rare Tupa creamer
Kaj Franck Iittala, Rare Tupa creamer
Vintage rare hand-blown creamer designed by Kaj Franck for Iittala, produced as part of the Tupa series introduced in 1948. One of the first Franck's design. The only utility glass series in Iittala catalogue 1949.
Made of deep olive-green glass, the piece stands 8 cm tall and features a softly rounded form with a defined pouring spout, a mixture of practical design and minimalist elegance.
While the more common pieces in the Tupa series, such as plates, tumblers, mugs and the carafe, this creamer is significantly rarer and was produced in much smaller quantities. It represents one of Franck’s few contributions to Iittala's glass production, as he later became more closely associated with Arabia and Nuutajärvi.
1948-1954. A refined and highly collectible example of postwar Finnish modernism.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. No chips or cracks; minor signs of age and use. The creamer features a very tiny thread of applied glass and a barely noticeable dark inclusion near the base of the handle — both are characteristic of hand-crafted glass production of the period and should not be considered flaws.
Why buy vintage glass by Kaj Franck's?
He was a revolutionary in Art glass and tableware design.
In the early 1950s, Franck refused lush decorating of the items in favor of clean lines, shapes, interesting colors and textures, thus, becoming one of the founders of mid-20th century modernist design in the Nordics.
