Exceptionally unusual antique ceramic stand by M. S. Kuznetsov, dating to the late 19th century.
The sculptural centre is formed as a hand wearing a ring and holding a small circular pedestal. The hand rises from a broad oval base decorated with flowers, leaves and a border of pink and deep blue ornaments. Fine gold outlines and gilded details run through the decoration, including the ring and the edge of the base.
The hand form resembling a Victorian era pieces.
The combination of figurative modelling, elaborate polychrome painting and gilding gives the piece a distinctly theatrical character. The open sections around the wrist make the hand appear almost suspended above the decorated base.
An impressed M. S. Kuznetsov mark is present in the ceramic body underneath.
Kuznetsov Russian Imperial porcelain and faience is known for its high quality and historical significance, making it a sought after collector's item.
