Clear glass Maininki creamer designed by Göran Hongell for Karhula glassworks, Finland. The series was produced from 1937 to 1959 and belongs to the formative period of Finnish functionalist glass design.

The compact form is unusually architectural for a small serving piece. Horizontal rings structure the body, while the broad handle and gently rising pouring lip give the creamer a strong, sculptural profile.

Maininki by Göran Hongell

Göran Hongell was one of the central figures in the development of Finnish modern glass. Maininki is recognised as an important example of Finnish functionalism from the 1930s, when designers were reconsidering traditional tableware through clearer forms and practical construction.

Examples from the Maininki series are preserved in Finnish museum collections, including the Regional Museum of Kymenlaakso. Today the series is also sought after by collectors of early Finnish and Scandinavian modern glass.
