Substantial bronze pendant of Horse Heads with Dangling Ornaments. The designer, Germund Paaer, was a renowned Nordic designer and jeweler in the first half of the 20th century. This pendant series was designed by Paaer in 1930s.

Crafted after an archaeological find from Early Medieval Karelia.

The horse was a symbol of the Sun among the Finnic peoples, including the Karelians. In ancient times, pendants with dangling ornaments were called "jingling" pendants. It was believed that their clinking would ward off evil spirits.

On our pendant, the danglers are stylized as the feet of a waterfowl.

In the center of the pendant, the necks of horses facing different directions form the image of a keyhole.

Since the 1930s, inspired by the finest examples of ancient Finnish, Scandinavian, and Karelian art found by archaeologists, Kalevala Koru crafted a large series of bronze and silver jewelry. Today they are considered classics of Nordic design.

Kalevala Koru is one of the most famous jewelry companies in the Nordics. In the 20th century the best designers created jewelry for the company, drawing inspiration from ancient art.

Pendant measurments 9x4,7 cm, chain length 35,5x2 cm. Vintage condition
