Mikko Helander Humppila, Bullicante vase, 1960s
Vintage hand-blown crystal vase by Finnish designer Mikko Helander, whose works are held in permanent collections such as the Finnish Glass Museum.
It features the exquisite bullicante technique, wihich is an intricate method of embedding controlled air bubbles in molten glass, originally developed by Italian masters in the 1930s. Only the most skilled Scandinavian and Italian glassmakers could master this delicate process, making each piece both technically and artistically unique.
The characteristic hazy texture is created by countless tiny air bubbles, a hallmark of the bullicante technique, giving the piece a unique inner glow.
