Vintage ceramic statuette from the 1970s is attributed to the Ukranian Lviv Experimental Ceramic and Sculpture Factory (Lvivska Keramiko-Sculpturna Fabryka, commonly abbreviated as LKSF).

Rendered in a dynamic, almost futurist or late modernist style, the sculpture portrays a powerful male figure, dramatically posed, with a sense of upward motion and struggle. The flowing, abstracted form and stylized musculature suggest a symbolic rather than literal representation.

The subject is likely Prometheus, the mythological Titan who defied the gods by stealing fire from Olympus and gifting it to humanity: an enduring symbol of sacrifice, enlightenment and defiant creativity. His uplifted arms and tense, forward-driven body capture the moment of defiance or liberation, perhaps with the swirling form around him evoking the fire or the punishment that followed.

Maker: Lviv Experimental Ceramic and Sculpture Factory (Lvivska Keramiko-Sculpturna Fabryka, USSR)

Material: Glazed ceramic, brown-toned finish
Dimensions: Height 24.5 cm
Origin: Lviv, Ukrainian SSR (Occupied by Soviet Union Ukraine)

Condition: Excellent vintage condition with no visible traces of use.

LKSF was one of the leading Soviet art ceramic workshops, known for its collaborations with prominent sculptors and artists. This piece, while unsigned, bears the clear hand of a skilled sculptor, using classical themes with modernist form, which is a hallmark of the factory’s best output during the post-war period.
