Nanny Still “Kehrä” Candle holders | Original box, candles

Complete boxed set of 4 Kehrä (Finnish for Spindle) candle holders designed by Nanny Still for Riihimäen Lasi.

Each holder is formed from clear pressed glass with a spiral shell like surface that catches candlelight beautifully. The shape feels soft and organic, almost like frozen movement in glass. Together with the original spherical candles and packaging, the set carries a very distinct atmosphere of Finnish interior design from the late 1970s.

The original box remains included, with its deep purple graphics and period typography intact. A rare detail today, especially with all four holders and candles still together.

Condition

Very good vintage condition.

The candle holders appear unused. Original candles included and unburned. The glass remains clean and well preserved with traces of age and storage. The original box shows visible wear, soft corner wear, and small marks consistent with age.

Design Notes

Kehrä means “spindle” in Finnish, and the swirling texture of the glass gives the impression of rotation or woven movement.

The holders work especially well in low evening light. Reflections move through the pressed glass surface and create a soft halo around the candle flame.

Even unlit, they function almost like small glass objects rather than ordinary candle holders.

Atmosphere

A very typical late twentieth century Finnish combination of practicality and decorative design.

The set feels equally at home in a minimalist interior, a seventies inspired space, or alongside Scandinavian glass collections from Iittala, Riihimäki, and Nuutajärvi.

The original packaging adds another layer entirely. It turns the set into a preserved design object from its own era
