Overview

A hand-blown art glass piece designed by Oiva Toikka in the mid-1960s for Nuutajärvi. Model 1483 is known for its sculptural outline: a rounded lower body, a narrow waist, and a wide flat top. In this example, the glass is a deep blue-violet shade that shows tonal shifts depending on the light.

Design Details

  • The form consists of three connected volumes: a weighty spherical base, a shaped middle section, and a wide cup-like top.

  • The color is a saturated ultramarine mixed with violet tones, visible especially around the thicker bottom section.
  • Surface shows only small expected signs of age.

  • Glassworks: Nuutajärvi, Finland’s oldest glassworks, active until 2014.
