Matching pair of Iittala i line glasses designed by Timo Sarpaneva, combining two refined forms and two subtle colours from one of the most important Finnish glass collections of the 1950s and 1960s.

Both glasses are exceptionally light and delicate. The gently curved profiles and thin hand blown glass give them an elegant presence, and the different silhouettes and tones make the pair particularly attractive together.

The i-line Collection

Timo Sarpaneva created the i-line collection for Iittala in the 1950s, bringing art glass ideas into objects intended for everyday use. The series was produced in Finland from 1956 to 1967 using glass blown by hand into moulds.

The collection received the Grand Prix at the Milan Triennale in 1957. Sarpaneva also designed the famous lowercase i inside a red circle for the series. This graphic mark was later adopted as the emblem of Iittala itself.

One glass retains its original vintage Iittala label.

Colours and Models

The pair combines two characteristic muted colours from the i-line palette. One has a soft green grey tone, while the other has a restrained lilac and purple grey shade.
