Vintage bronze ring from the Pitsi series (Finnish for Lace) by renowned Finnish jeweler Pentti Sarpaneva.
Diameter is 17 mm. The ring has a manufacturing defect – a tiny underfill in the mold. Please refer to the photos for more detail.
Pitsi combines both Space Age Modernist and traditional national styles, with a decorative pattern reminiscent of lace. The seemingly organic, almost chaotic network of lines evokes both natural forms and futuristic visions, a paradox of the 1970s that celebrated both nature and technology without fully reconciling them.
The irregular, textured surface and the hand-crafted feel reflect a modernist distrust of perfection, while the openness and structural daring gesture toward the optimism of the space age.
