Raanu by Toini Joki for Lankatalo Aino-Pirtti

Large handwoven Finnish raanu designed by Toini Joki and produced by Lankatalo Aino-Pirtti in Imatra. Woven in wool, the textile is built from broad horizontal bands in sage green, olive, cream, rust, orange, brown and muted pink, with finer contrasting stripes running through the composition.

Toini Joki designed a number of raanu patterns for Lankatalo Aino-Pirtti, whose catalogues supplied yarns and weaving patterns for making these traditional Finnish wall textiles. This example has a particularly strong modernist colour composition and, at 155 cm long, works well as a substantial wall hanging.
