Striking early handmade Aarikka Finland brooch from the 1960s, built around contrast and movement.

A strict square frame surrounds a suspended wooden sphere that moves freely inside the open structure. The geometric metal frame keeps the form sharp and architectural, while the softly coloured wooden bead introduces warmth and motion.

Design Details

The suspended wooden bead creates an unusual sense of balance inside the rigid square frame. Aarikka often worked with simple natural forms, but this piece feels especially minimal and modern even today.

The muted green tone of the wood softens the colder metallic surface and gives the brooch a distinctly Nordic character.

The open structure also makes the piece visually light despite the solid silver construction.

Handmade in Finland.

Early Aarikka jewellery from this period was produced in relatively small quantities compared with the company’s later mass market production.

Early Aarikka silver jewellery has become increasingly difficult to find, especially pieces retaining their original moving elements and clean geometric structure.
