Set of 5 vintage Pingviini glasses designed by Helena Tynell for Riihimäen Lasi in Finland during the 1960s.
The compact form has a softly rounded bowl, a narrow waist and a flared base. Smoke grey glass becomes considerably darker where the material thickens towards the foot, giving these small glasses a "small pinguin" like silhouette. The restrained colour and unusual proportions work especially well as a complete set.
Pingviini by Helena Tynell
Helena Tynell designed the Pingviini series for Riihimäen Lasi during the 1960s. The design uses the thickness and shape of the blown glass to create changing depths of colour, with the grey appearing almost black around the base.
