Overview
Set of 3 vintage glasses with an unusual truncated form, possibly made by Riihimäen Lasi in Finland, circa 1940s to 1950s.
The shape is especially interesting: slightly flared at the top, narrowed through the middle, and standing on a thick stepped base. The form has an architectural feeling, somewhere between late Art Deco and early modernist glass design.
Design and Colour
The glasses are clear, but each base carries a soft colour accent. Two glasses have a pale sea green tone, while one has a cool blue base. The colour is concentrated in the thicker lower glass and becomes visible in rings, shadows and reflections.
From above, the bases create concentric circles, almost like small optical drawings in glass. From the side, the glasses look light and elegant, but the stepped base gives them a stronger visual weight.
Style and Period
The design fits well with the 1940s to 1950s transition from decorative Art Deco forms to cleaner modernist glass. The body is simple, but the silhouette is not ordinary: the slight inward curve and wide upper rim give the glasses a distinctive, almost atemporal character.
The attribution to Riihimäen Lasi is possible, but not confirmed. The glasses are sold as vintage Finnish style glass with possible Riihimäen Lasi connection.
