Søholm Danish Art Pottery, Maria Philippi
Søholm Danish Art Pottery, Maria Philippi
Vintage midcentury Danish ceramic design piece from Søholm, Bornholm. The form is 3733 created by Maria Philippi in the 1960s. Stands approximately 7.5 cm tall with a diameter of about 9 cm.
Its form is compact and sculptural: a flattened, rounded body with a central opening, raised on a cylindrical foot. The silhouette is reminiscent of a modernist interpretation of ancient ritual objects, simultaneously organic and architectural. This shape allows for versatile use: as a small vase for minimalist floral arrangements, a candleholder or simply a decorative sculptural accent.
The surface is finished in a glossy black glaze, with hand-painted ochre and golden abstract strokes. Textured granulate sections (coarse, sand-like material) add a tactile, earthy contrast.
Marked: Søholm Denmark, model 3733, “MP” (Maria Philippi). Excellent vintage condition.
Styling Tips
This piece pairs especially well with interiors that favor natural textures and curated restraint:
Mid-century modern
Scandinavian minimalism
Wabi-sabi / Japandi aesthetics
Brutalist or modern organic spaces
Whether placed on a console, shelf or windowsill, it brings a subtle graphic presence without dominating the space. Works beautifully solo or as part of a mixed ceramics display.
