Modernist ceramic vase and art object by Strehla, made in Germany in the 1970s. The form is marked 1301, a rather rare one.

The vase has square body, rounded edges and a short neck opening at the top. The glaze is deep brown, speckled grey and a bright orange band running across the body. The raised geometric surface gives the piece a more architectural presence.

Design and Glaze

Strehla pottery is well known for expressive lava style surfaces and bold colour contrasts. This vase has a tactile, almost stone like brown and grey glaze, broken by a vivid orange centre section. The orange sits inside the relief pattern and makes the shape feel sharper and more graphic.

For Collectors and Interiors

This Strehla 1301 vase is a good piece for collectors of East German pottery, Fat Lava ceramics and 1970s modernist decor. Its square body, relief pattern and strong orange glaze make it especially useful where a small object needs visible character without taking much space.
