The Color
A deep, lustrous red at the center, reminiscent of classic “oxblood” glazes, radiates outward into a textured halo of charcoal grey and smoky black. This layered effect is achieved through meticulous control of firing temperatures and glaze application, resulting in a dynamic surface that shifts character under different lighting. The blurred, almost feathered transition at the edges enhances the sense of depth, giving the piece a quiet and powerful presence.
The Form
With its low, shallow profile and gently curved rim, the plate presents a balanced, understated silhouette, emphasizing function while subtly elevating form.
Why buy vintage ceramics by Sven Hofverberg?
Unlike many of his contemporaries, who worked within larger manufacturers, Hofverberg chose an independent path, establishing his own studio in Landskrona, Sweden. This allowed him to fully dedicate himself to the pursuit of perfection in stoneware, refining his distinctive approach to form and glaze. His works are now part of the Swedish National Museum of Art and Design collection.
