Round pewter box by Svenskt Tenn, made in Sweden in 1936. Piece combines a restrained cylindrical body with fine horizontal grooves, small fluted feet and a sculptural finial on the lid.
The design belongs to the late Swedish Grace period, with a clear Art Deco influence in its geometry and carefully controlled ornament. The simple circular form gives the pewter a strong presence, and the small architectural details keep the piece distinctly characteristic of Swedish design of the 1930s.
Svenskt Tenn and Swedish Grace
Founded in Stockholm in 1924, Svenskt Tenn became closely associated with Swedish decorative arts and pewter design. This 1936 box reflects the transition from Swedish Grace towards the cleaner forms of later Scandinavian modernism.
