Overview
Vintage glass object is part of the Jäkälä series, also known as Fingervase, designed by Tapio Wirkkala in 1951 for Iittala. Conceived not only as a functional vase but as an art glass object, it was intended for sculptural display as much as for use.
Design & Context
The form consists of vertically rising, finger-like elements arranged around a cylindrical core. Each element is rounded and softened by an acid-matte surface, creating a dense, tactile structure with strong visual presence.
Objects from the Jäkälä series were presented at the Milan Triennale 1951, placing the design within the international art and design discourse of the early post-war period.
