Overview
The Jurmo carafe belongs to the Jurmo collection designed by Timo Sarpaneva in 1978 and produced by Iittala in the early 1980s. The piece is defined by clear geometry, smooth transitions and a solid silhouette.
Design & Form
The carafe is mouth-blown in clear glass. It features a rounded body, a gently tapered neck and a matching glass stopper that continues the same formal rhythm. The surface is even and uninterrupted, allowing light to pass cleanly through the glass.
The proportions are carefully calibrated for stability and controlled pouring. The stopper sits firmly and aligns precisely with the neck, completing the vertical composition.
Collection Context
The Jurmo series included a carafe, decanter and a range of drinking glasses. It was conceived as a unified glassware family suitable for both everyday use and table settings. The series reflects Finnish modernist glass design of the late 20th century.
Designer
Timo Sarpaneva was a key figure in Finnish design and played a central role in shaping Iittala’s postwar identity. His work spans glass, metal and industrial design and is represented in major international museum collections.
