Overview
Vintage metal insurance plate used on mopeds in Finland during the 1950s–1960s. At that time mopeds were not issued government license plates. Instead, a small insurance plate served as the vehicle identification marker.
The plate was mounted on the rear fender of the moped. Each plate corresponded to a specific insurance policy.
The example shown carries the marking SBM 367.

Historical Context
Until 2011 moped vehicles in Finland did not receive official registration plates. Insurance companies issued numbered plates that confirmed the validity of the insurance policy.
These plates functioned as the visible identifier of the vehicle on public roads.
