About the Piece
Small vintage brass vase by Ystad Metall, made in Sweden around the 1940s and designed by Gunnar Ander.

The vase has a flared fan shaped body with vertical ribbing and a round flat base. Its silhouette sits between late Art Deco (Funkis) and early Scandinavian modernism: decorative, but still controlled and architectural. The upper edge has a soft scalloped rhythm, giving the object a more delicate profile when seen from above.

The brass has a warm golden tone with visible age, surface marks and natural darkening. It carries the material history of an old Swedish brass piece, with patina, scratches and signs of use clearly present.

Designer and Maker
Designer: Gunnar Ander
Manufacturer: Ystad Metall
Country: Sweden
Period: circa 1940s
Material: Polished brass
Marking: Ystad Metall Made in Sweden

Form and Style
The vase is small, but visually strong. The vertical fluting gives it height and movement, while the broad circular base keeps the form stable. The shape works well as a miniature vase, a cabinet object or a small decorative accent on a shelf, desk or side table.

The design reflects the transition from Art Deco ornament toward cleaner modernist forms. The ribbed body, golden metal and fan like opening give it a period character without making it overly ornate.

Colour and Surface
The brass colour ranges from warm gold to deeper aged bronze tones. The surface shows scratches, wear, oxidation and darker areas, especially inside the vase and around the base. These traces are part of the vintage character and are visible in the photos.

The inside has stronger patina and darkening, consistent with age and previous use.

Dimensions
Height: 10.5 cm

Condition
Used vintage condition. There are signs of age and use, including scratches, surface wear, patina, oxidation and darker areas inside the vase. Please see the photos as part of the condition description.

Why It Stands Out
A compact Swedish brass vase with a strong Art Deco to early modernist look. The fluted fan shape, warm aged brass and Ystad Metall marking make it a good piece for collectors of Scandinavian metalware, Gunnar Ander design and small vintage decorative objects.

It can stand alone as a sculptural brass accent or be grouped with glass, ceramics and other Swedish mid century objects.
