Highly graphic Finnish zodiac pendant depicting Cancer, with a raised bronze crayfish motif against a crisp white enamel background.
The pendant is attributed to ATO-Koru, part of Finnish Tillander jewellery company. It is also likely related to designer Siegfried Hanna’s Horoskooppi series, produced around the 1940s, although the pendant itself is unmarked.
Tillander is one of the most famous Finnish jewellery maker.
Design and style
The restrained circular form and stylised animal design give the piece a distinctly modernist character despite its early date.
The pendant is bronze with enamel and is paired with a fine gold tone chain. The chain is marked AM DOUBLE, a designation used for jewellery made from non-precious base metal with a gold plated finish.
