Collection: Designer: Erkki Tapio Siiroinen

Erkki Tapio Siiroinen (1944–1994) emerged as a key figure in Finnish glass design during his time at Riihimäen Lasi, where he served as a lead designer from the late 1960s into the 1970s. Hailing from Riihimäki, he began his career collaborating closely with craftsmen, learning to shape glass through hands on involvement.

Signature Works & Techniques

Siiroinen became especially known for striking two-tone cased glass vases that layer vivid hues over clear crystal. His featuring cube like protrusions Dice vase and the Pablo bottle vase are standout visuals, blending color blocking with fluid contours. Often signed and produced in limited batches, his pieces are now recognizable collector’s items.

Recognition & Museum Inclusion

His works, like the model 1379 series in purple or green, regularly surface in Nordic museum collections, including the Finnish Glass Museum and institutions across Scandinavia, underlining his importance in 20th century Finnish glass innovation.

Artistry & Impact

Siiroinen employed vibrant juxtapositions of color and tactility, redefining the expressive potential of cased glass. His bold color choices and structured forms broke from softer organic trends of the time. Now, his vases and sculptural bottles continue to appear in vintage and gallery settings, testaments to his influence on Riihimäki’s modernist heritage.
